Cheap authentic Malaysian food Sydney – Mamak and Hawker review

Travel Bunny finally got to try Mamak‘s famed roti and new restaurant from the owners of Mamak: Hawker.

Hot tip: to avoid queueing and to get your Roti immediately, try Mamak at the Chinatown markets on Friday nights from 6pm. Roti Canai is $5.50 and you can get it hot, fresh on the spot. The markets now have small low stools around on the street (like asia) where you can sit/squat and eat. 🙂

The Roti is good, fresh, cripsy and tasty. Canai is curry like in taste, very runny/liquid and hot! As is the Sambal.

Hawker is BYO and offer a variety of Malaysian snacks, meals and desserts. Open until 10pm. drinks/desserts and food from $3 up to about $12-16.

The durian dessert is a must for those who like durian (not me!).

The Teh (tea) is very strong so be warned!

I didn’t take many pictures of the food, as it was consumed before photos could be taken! The fried bread is recommended!
